You will be notified via email when your ILL materials are ready to pick up.
In most cases, you will check out your ILL materials at the UCSB Library Services Desk. Materials can only be picked up by the person who made the original request (faculty and their proxy borrowers may pick up one another’s requests). If you cannot pick up your ILL materials in person, please contact the Interlibrary Loan Department as soon as possible. Contact Us
Items designated “Library Use Only” must be used in the Special Research Collections Department of the UCSB Library. Please note that Special Research Collections has limited resources for viewing non-book materials. Please call the department at (805) 893-3062 to make arrangements for viewing. Consult the Special Research Collection hours to see when the department is open.
If you requested a journal article, you will be sent a link to an electronic copy of the article, with instructions for retrieving it. If a paper copy is sent by the supplying library, it will be held at the UCSB Library Services Desk for you to pick up. You will receive an email notification of its arrival.
Borrower Responsibilites
Materials must be returned to the library in the same physical condition as when they were checked out. This includes returning all pieces of an ILL item at the same time and also returning the item with its ILL strap and paperwork. On the top of all ILL straps, it states "DO NOT REMOVE THIS SLIP". This applies to the ILL strap and any additional paperwork. Returning an ILL item without its ILL strap is considered an improper return. If fines are accrued as a result of an improper return, a full refund is not guaranteed.
Lending libraries may recall their materials at any time. In order for the UCSB Interlibrary Loan department to remain in good standing with our lending partners, it is crucial that we adhere to the loan policies and preferences of the lending libraries. If a Recall Notice is sent for an ILL item, it is your responsibility to make sure the item is returned by the new due date assigned at the time of recall. If recalled items are not returned in a timely manner, our institution's borrowing privileges may be revoked by the lending library and replacement charges may be issued to your account.
My ILL Requests
You can view your current ILL requests through My ILL Requests. When an item first arrives and is being processed by Interlibrary Loan, its status changes to “Received” in My ILL Requests, but it is not available until you receive email notification of its arrival.
