Subject librarian for
Tom Brittnacher (BRITT-nock-er) (he/him) is the Curator for Geospatial Collections within the Department of Special Research Collections. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography, a Master’s degree in Urban Planning, and a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science. He has been a cartographer, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analyst, and urban planner with a specialization in transportation projects, as well as a librarian. In his librarian career he has specialized in GIS and map curation, with a focus on geospatial metadata. He was part of the teams that created the Aardvark geospatial metadata schema and the Open Index Maps standard.
Tom currently oversees and provides reference and research services related to the Library’s geospatial collection, including aerial photos, maps, GIS data, atlases, and globes. He is also working towards providing easier online access to the collection through a new, custom geospatial interface. Tom is also the Subject Librarian to the Geography department.
