Subject librarian for
Laura Jean Treat Liebhaber is the Curator for Film & Television and Santa Barbara Local History Collections in the Department of Special Research Collections. She is also the Subject Librarian for Film & Media Studies. She holds a Master’s degree in Information Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. She has published and presented on a variety of topics related to moving image collections including home movies, surf film, descriptive metadata for local television collections, relationships between archives and archival producers, and the preservation crisis for local television news collections within the United States. Laura is active with and has held numerous leadership positions with the Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA). She currently serves on AMIA’s Board of Directors and the Local Television Task Force.
Laura’s work at UCSB includes providing research support and instruction to a range of academic departments including Film & Media Studies, with a particular interest in working with researchers interested in engaging with local and community history and archival moving image collections.
