Subject librarian for
Kristen LaBonte is the Interim Director of Research and Engagement and is a Subject Librarian. She holds a Master’s degree in Library Science from Southern Connecticut State University and a B.A. in Geography from UC Santa Barbara. Kristen holds leadership positions in the International Association of Aquatic and Marine Science Libraries and Information Centers. She has published on the topics of virtual reality and education, information literacy, and spatial dynamics of humpback whales and routinely shares best practices in subject librarianship and collections disaster response at library conferences. In Kristen’s spare time, she travels, hikes, grows lots of flowers and helps to manage the Greenhouse and Garden Project at UCSB.
Kristen’s work at UCSB includes providing research support and information literacy instruction to academic departments and programs and workshops on a variety of topics. She is the subject liaison to the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management, Ecology, Evolution, & Marine Biology, Earth Science, Environmental Studies, and Psychological & Brain Sciences.
