UCSB Library now offers pickup and mail delivery services for UCSB students, faculty, and staff to access circulating Library research materials.
You can request circulating materials directly from UCSB Library Search after logging into your user account. Follow the instructions here for logging in and making a request.
If you are a new faculty or staff, you will need to activate your Library account before being able to take advantage of the Pickup and Mailing Service.
Most books, media, and journals are currently requestable. When you request an item in the Library catalog, a drop-down menu will appear where you have the option to choose pickup (from the Main Library or Music Library) or mail delivery, at which point you must enter a current mailing address. If you are displaying any symptoms of COVID-19, please opt for the mail delivery service.
An email confirmation will be sent once the request is fulfilled. We expect a turnaround time of up to five business days for pickup requests. Items will be held for 14 days from the date you receive the email confirmation. Items will already be checked out to you and you can consult your library account for due dates.
Please check the HathiTrust Digital Library before placing a request. If a digital version of a requested book is available in HathiTrust, a link will be provided instead of the Library’s print copy so that we can maintain the UC-wide emergency online access to copyrighted works. For various reasons, some Library materials found in the Library Catalog are not currently requestable for pickup and mailing. If you are a UCSB faculty, staff, or student and are in need of an item that is held by the UCSB Library but is not requestable, please fill out this form. Library staff will evaluate the item to determine whether it can be made available for pickup, mailing, or to view by appointment. (Appointments are only available to UCSB faculty and graduate students).
Mailed materials will be sent via FedEx. We can only send to U.S. and non-campus addresses. We are also unable to send to P.O. boxes. If you choose the mailing option, please expect to wait up to two weeks for your materials. You will be notified if there is an issue with mailing due to material size or weight.

Picking Up Materials
Pickup at the Main Library will be available during the following times:
12-9 p.m. Sunday
9 a.m-9 p.m. Monday - Thursday
9 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday
You will receive an email stating that your item is on hold when it is ready to be picked up.
Note: The Library will be closed from June 12-20. During that time, the pickup and mailing service at the Main Library will still be available on Tuesday, June 15 from 1-4 p.m. and Friday, June 18 from 9 a.m. to noon
To pick up material at the Main Library, enter through the main Paseo West entrance. A UCSB Access Card is required to enter. For immediate building access issues, please call (805) 893-3492.
Face coverings are required and you must practice social distancing protocols. Your materials will be located on book carts just inside the entrance, marked with the first four letters of your last name followed by the last four digits of your library account number.
Pickup at the Music Library will be available at the following times:
2-4 p.m. Tuesdays
10 a.m.-noon Thursdays
2-4 p.m. Fridays
Once you receive a notice that your music item is ready for pick up, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange a pickup time during one of the time slots indicated above.
At the arranged time, come to the loading dock behind Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall. When you arrive, call (805) 893-2641. Upon receiving your call, Music Library staff will bring your materials to the loading dock on a cart and leave the cart there.
Once the staff has walked at least six feet away from the cart, please come and retrieve the items from the cart. (A socially-distanced friendly wave hello is optional, but encouraged!)
There are a few stairs leading up to the loading dock; if you have an accessibility issue, please let the Music Library staff know about it when you talk to them on the phone, and they will accommodate you.
Returning Materials by Mail
If you are out of town and cannot return your Library materials to the book returns on campus, you can mail them back or send them via a courier such as UPS or Federal Express, to the following address:

Be sure to include a prominent note with the books (or on the ILL book straps, if ILL material): "Please check in."
As with other return methods, returned books may remain on your library account longer than usual as we have limited staff in the buildings to process them.
If I request materials from both the Main Library and Music Library, can I pick them up at one location?
No. You will have to pick up your requested materials at each location separately. We offer overlapping times for pick up to enable you to do this in one trip.

Will hand sanitizer be available?
Yes, there will be hand sanitizer at the Main Library pickup location.
Should I sanitize the materials I pick up?
Please do not try to sanitize Library materials as it may cause damage.
Will I be able to use the restroom in the Library?
No, the restrooms will be unavailable in both the Main Library and Music Library.
