UC Santa Barbara now has an Open Access Publishing Fund to support authors who want to make their research open access immediately upon publication and to ensure that no UCSB author who desires to publish open access is disadvantaged by a lack of funds to cover relevant fees. The UCSB OA Fund is supported and administered by the UCSB Library.

All UCSB students and employees who are the corresponding author of an accepted publication in a fully open access journal can apply. After being approved, eligible authors will be reimbursed for article processing charges (APCs) to eligible journals.

The guidelines and application form were developed in cooperation with the Senate’s Committee on Library, Information, and Instructional Resources. The 2012-2016 Open Access Fund Pilot also informed decisions regarding criteria and processes.

The new OA Publishing Fund is another step forward in making UCSB scholarship free to read worldwide.
