Registration is full. If you wish to be added to the waitlist, please complete this form.
Participants will learn how to create a handmade stencil with their own designs using cardstock and cutting tools. Artist and assistant will help participants through the design and cutting process before printing the designs via silkscreen. Designs will be printed as posters with vibrant inks.
This workshop is in conjunction with the Library's exhibition "Cultura Cura: 50 Years of Self Help Graphics in East LA" in addition to UCSB Reads 2024, which this year selected the book, Your Brain on Art: How the Arts Transform Us by Susan Magsamen and Ivy Ross.
Founded in 1970 in the heart of East Los Angeles, Self Help Graphics & Art is dedicated to the production, interpretation, and distribution of prints and other art media by Chicana/o and Latina/o artists. Our multidisciplinary and intergenerational programs promote artistic excellence and empower our community by providing access to space, tools, training and capital.
