Happy City: Isla Vista

UCSB Library is thrilled to present this exhibition of student work from the winter 2023 issue of “The Catalyst,” UCSB’s Contemporary Literary Arts Magazine. This year, the editors decided to theme the issue, which they've titled "Happy City: Isla Vista," to coincide with the UCSB Reads 2023 selection, "Happy City: Transforming Our Lives Through Urban Design" by Charles Montgomery.

 

Published each quarter with submissions from the UCSB campus community, the magazine takes the concept of a Cat-a-lyst, an agent that stimulates a reaction, development or change. The magazine accelerates the process of communication between multiple art forms in a chain of reactions. Students work collaboratively to produce the layouts that constitute the magazine, bringing together words and images in ways that stimulate our thinking regarding our local environment, community and culture.
