Sharing data is increasingly expected, but not all data can — or should — be made open. This session explores responsible data sharing: maximizing openness while protecting human subjects, endangered species, and protected lands. We’ll examine ethical sharing in practice and highlight the safeguards and decisions needed to balance access with responsibility.
The Data to Discovery Series is hosted by Research Data Services (RDS) @ the UCSB Library. Every two weeks, we will spotlight a key principle of working with data and engaging in open science. These 30-minute sessions provide quick introductions to practical tools, useful resources, and proven practices—alongside with opportunities to hear from experts and connect with fellow researchers. Whether you’re starting out or refining your workflow, Data to Discovery offers a welcoming space to strengthen your skills and spark new ideas.
