Join UC Santa Barbara’s Department of Special Research Collections for a tour with artist, Jane Gottlieb.

If you look up from the West Paseo, you can’t miss the most colorful art piece to the Library - a painting by Jane Gottlieb. The work, titled “Check It Out,” depicts the UCSB Library and has both a futuristic and retro air. The piece measures 14 feet by 15 feet and is composed of eight archival prints on aluminum, assembled to fit snugly together.

View this piece up close and hear from the artist herself as she provides background and context to this work as well as many other pieces displayed throughout our campus.

The tour and presentation will be followed by a reception with light refreshments.

About the Artist: Jane Gottlieb has been expressing her joy of art with paint, shapes, and color since she was very young. She began as a painter, evolved into a photographer, and eventually began hand painting with vivid colors on individual cibachrome prints over thirty years ago. Gottlieb’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally at many museums and is held in many public collections (including at UCLA, Brookings Institute, Carnegie Art Museum, Disney Art Collection). She has been written up in numerous art publications and major magazines.
