Subject librarian for
Brittany O’Neill is the Online Learning Librarian at UCSB Library. She holds a Master of Science degree in Library & Information Studies and a Graduate Certificate in Reference Services from Florida State University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in English – Technical Communication from the University of Central Florida. Her research has appeared in College & Research Libraries, Library Leadership & Management, New Review of Academic Librarianship, and many other library journals and edited volumes. Her research interests include critical information literacy, educational development, outreach impact assessment, trauma-informed librarianship, and crisis communication in academic libraries. She was a recipient of the 2018 ATG Media Up & Comer Award and the 2024 Innovation in Instruction Award from the American Library Association’s Library Instruction Roundtable.
As Online Learning Librarian in Teaching & Learning, she supports foundational information literacy with first-year and first-generation students through instruction, digital learning objects, and research consultations. Serving as the liaisons to the Writing Program and the Office of Teaching & Learning, Teaching & Learning partners with campus instructors to provide pedagogical and research support while promoting cross-divisional library user services. The Peer-Assisted Library Services (PALS) student assistants foster an inclusive environment and encourage students to use UCSB Library services and resources.
