COVID-19 Update: As of May 22, two book return drops have been reopened: at the Main Library Paseo West entrance and at the Music Library. Returned books will remain on your Library account until we have staff in the buildings to process them. We are working on extending due dates until Sept. 12. No overdue fines are being charged at this time.
You may renew materials through “My Library Account” up to 10 times beyond their initial due date, unless they have been recalled. To renew items an 11th time, you must bring them in to either the UCSB Library or the Music Library for processing and then you can check them out again.
Faculty, students, and staff can recall materials that are checked out to other library borrowers. Academic libraries conduct business year-round so items may be recalled at any time. Recalled items are due back in 3 weeks or less.
Recalled items not returned by the due date printed on the recall notice will begin accruing fines. Recall fines are $1.00 per day for overdue recalls. Items that you have recalled will be kept at the Services Desk in the UCSB Library or at the Music Library Circulation Desk for one week.
An option to recalling items is Interlibrary Loan.
Recalls for Course Reserves
Items recalled by Course Reserves must be returned in 5 days, regardless of when they were checked out. Items not returned by the new recall due date are subject to fines. Being out of town does not excuse recall fines.
Courtesy and Community borrowers are not eligible to recall items.
COVID-19 Update: While the Library is closed in accordance with the Governor's shelter-in-place order, we are unable to fulfill requests for materials from the Annex.
Items with the location "Annex" are in off-campus storage. They can be requested through the UCSB Library Catalog or by using the manual Annex Request form. Materials are retrieved from the Annex on weekday afternoons. Material requested by noon on those days will be available for pick up by 5 pm.
Requesting that the Library Purchase a Book
The UCSB Library welcomes suggestions for additions to the collections. Contact the appropriate Subject Specialist or use the online suggestion form to recommend a book.
COVID-19 Update: While the Library is closed in accordance with the Governor's shelter-in-place order, Interlibrary Loan is unable to fulfill requests for physical materials. We will continue to process requests for articles and book chapters.
Students, faculty, and staff may use Interlibrary Loan (ILL) to request material from another UC library, provided UCSB does not own it or it is checked out. Non-UCSB borrowers are not eligible to use the UCSB Library’s ILL service, but may request items from their local public library.
