The Mark Hurd collection consists primarily of large scale and site-specific photography covering the tri-county area of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura in the mid-1950s to the mid-1970s. There is photography from more than 1500 flights, which also includes some coverage of other California counties, a few other (mainly western) US states, and a couple of international areas (e.g. Guatemala). All of the photographs in this collection are paper prints, and primarily black and white (there are some flights with color photography). There are no original negatives remaining, and the UCSB Library holds the only archive of this collection. Most of the photographs are in vertical format, and there are oblique photographs from more than 200 flights. The frame size for most of the photography is 9” x 9”, yet there are several flights with 9” x 18” and other frame sizes. Apart from a few exceptions, Mark Hurd flight IDs have a prefix of AN-, HA-, HB-, HO-, or TA-, followed by a two letter code that is unique for each flight. More than half of the Mark Hurd Collection has been cataloged. We also have a list of the majority of the Mark Hurd flights with a description of the area covered.
