To commemorate International Open Access Week, the Library is delighted to host a “This is What Open Access Looks Like” wine and cheese reception to honor UCSB’s open access book authors, journal editors and publishers. Their contributions to making scholarly writings free to read for students, scholars and lifelong learners will be showcased in a looping slideshow; a roll call and booklet of all honorees and their publications; laptop stations where attendees can view and download free publications onto free flash drives; a book display of print on demand open access books; and, of course, plenty of publisher information will be available. All are welcome.

Open access is a new normal in scholarly publishing, where scholarly writings are available free online, with limited or no copyright restrictions, allowing authors to retain the rights to their work, including the right to circulate their scholarship widely through their own networks, without permission from the publisher.

Sponsored by the UCSB Library and the UC Press.
