Using the VPN for Accessing the Library DatabasesThe campus VPN, or Virtual Private Network, is an alternative to using the proxy server. This method of authentication will require you to download the VPN client software and install it on your computer.Once you have downloaded the client, you can log into the VPN and you will be given a UCSB IP address for the duration of your VPN session. You can then open a web browser and use the web-based database interfaces. The VPN will also provide authentication for databases which require proprietary software to use. These software packages will not work with the proxy server. Examples include SciFinder Scholar, databases which use the Insight Client software, and EndNote searching using connection files. Set-up Instructions:Download the client software. Be sure to leave it in "full-tunnel" mode, which is the default setting. Otherwise, it will not work with the library databases.
