User ID and Password for Wireless Network, the Proxy Server, and the VPN

Your User ID and password is your UCSBnetID and password. These are the same as your UCSB Directory User ID and password. It is not the same as your barcode number that you use for Pegasus, Melvyl, or Interlibrary Loan requests.

UCSB students:

  • Use your UCSBnetID and password -- these are the same as your U-Mail User ID and password.
    • If you have not already done so, activate your U-Mail account before trying to use the proxy server.
    • You should automatically be entered in the UCSB Directory.
    • Example: if your U-Mail address is "NewStudent@umail.ucsb.edu", then your UCSBnetID is "NewStudent".
    • Note: If your password is not working, you will want to reset it at the UMail site. Use the "Identity" link. New passwords must be 8-16 characters. They must contain at least one upper case and one lower case letter, as well as one numeral.

UCSB faculty and staff:

  • Use your UCSBnetID and password
    • For Faculty, this is the ID and password you use for E-grades.
    • Other Employees: This is the ID and password that is used for Espresso, the Data Warehouse, Barc, the Travel Voucher System, and other systems on campus.
    • If you do not know your UCSBnetID and password, you can go to SAASB 4101 to get help. Be sure to take a photo ID and be prepared to give your employee number.

Not UCSB student or employee:

  • You may use our online resources from our user workstations in the library, but are not eligible for wireless or off-campus use.
  • NOTE: Alumni status does not entitle you to use these services.

Important Note About Password Problems:

The university notified every employee and student in March 2007 to tell them to reset their passwords. Employees were notifed through their departments. Students were notified via their U-mail accounts.

If you did not reset your password by the deadline (in April) your account has been disabled until you do so. Read the last bullet point for your classification (above) for information about how to reset your password.

Library personnel do not have access to your UCSBnetID and password information. If you have forgotten your ID or password, follow the instructions for resetting your password to get that information.
