Sid KastnerSid Kastner was a lifelong collector of antique phonographs, cylinder records, and 78rpm discs. Over decades of collecting he amassed a significant collection of rare machines as well as recordings to play on them. After his passing in 2021, his family has donated portions of his collection to the UC Santa Barbara, Library. Included in the donation are the following machines: 

  • Edison Class M phonograph
  • Berliner Hand Crank gramophone
  • Gem Echophone cylinder player
  • Victor Type A gramophone
  • Victor Type C gramophone
  • Kalamazoo Duplex gramophone

The cylinder and 78rpm recordings in the Kastner collection are currently being cataloged and selectively digitized. Digital copies will be available through the UCSB Cylinder Audio Archive and the Discography of American Historical Recordings (DAHR).
