Except in the case of a recalled item, the library does not charge daily overdue fines for material borrowed from the general collection. If you have overdue materials, your borrowing privileges will be blocked and you will not be able to conduct any library transactions until overdue items are renewed or returned. For each item more than 30 days overdue, you will be billed an initial replacement charge of $65 plus an additional $15 non-refundable processing fee. Charges for items will be adjusted upward if the replacement cost to the library is more than $65.
If items from the Arts Collection are 30 days overdue, you will be charged an initial replacement cost of $125 plus a non-refundable $15 processing fee.
If your Interlibrary Loan items are 30 days overdue, you will be charged an initial replacement cost of $125 plus a non-refundable $15 processing fee. If the item's actual value is higher than $125, as determined by the lending library, the charges will be increased accordingly.
Overdue charges for items from Course Reserves are $2.00 per hour. There is no cap on the amount charged. During dead week and finals, fines are doubled to $4.00 per hour. If you have overdue materials, you will not be able to conduct new library transactions until all late items are renewed or returned. If your Reserves materials are repeatedly returned late, or if you prevent others from borrowing Reserves materials, you will be blocked from all Reserves activity. For each item more than 3 days overdue, you will be billed a replacement charge plus a non-refundable $15 processing fee in addition to the overdue fines. Once the library has ordered a replacement copy, the replacement fee is non-refundable.
Overdue charges for laptop computers are $15 for the first hour overdue (or any part thereof), and $10 per hour thereafter. When a laptop is lost, stolen, damaged, or 24 hours overdue, you will be billed $1000 for replacement, plus a $25 processing fee, and the accumulated overdue fines. The replacement charge will be refunded if the computer is returned in good condition within 7 days of billing; however the overdue fines and processing fees remain. Laptops returned after the Circulation Desk closes will continue to accrue fines overnight.
