UC Libraries Reach Agreement with Elsevier

The California Digital Library (CDL) recently completed a successful negotiation with Elsevier for a 5-year license to the Science Direct journal package of more than 1,200 titles, the largest of the CDL licensed journal packages, paid for by co-investment of the UC libraries.  As part of the agreement UC was able to move high-value journals from the unsubscribed Freedom Collection into subscribed status with perpetual access rights; the transferred journals were selected by UC librarians, including many from UCSB.  The agreement also includes CDL purchase of the Elsevier 2014 frontlist of ebooks, totalling 858 titles.
