Thousands of Manuscript Collections Now Cataloged

Charles Dickens letter, October 27, 1880 (SC 83)Concluding an 18 month project by three library departments, nearly all of the manuscript collections in Special Collections are now represented in both the Library Catalog and the Online Archive of California (OAC). One of the largest components of uncataloged materials was the "small collections." Small collections are often comprised of single letters, diaries, documents, photographs, ephemera, and other historical documents that are not part of larger collections. Several thousand small collections are now represented in both the Library Catalog and OAC, greatly increasing access to these materials. Of the nearly 4,000 collections in Special Collections, all now have collection level records online and over 1,000 also have detailed finding guides.
