HOT Volunteer Mappers Aid Philippines Relief Efforts

Coordinated relief efforts by agencies on the ground in the aftermath of  typhoon Haiyan are utilizing maps made by Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT), a non-governmental US organization whose work first caught the attention of relief agencies in the aftermath of the 2010 Haiti earthquake.  Combining information from before and after aerial photography, satellite imagery and digital data sets, the HOT team is able to provide critical base mapping of roads and infrastructure relevant to the affected areas in the Philippines.  Read more about how opensource technologies, social-media data, and a global spirit of volunteerism are coming together in this nature.com article.
