The UCSB Library is open to patrons but has changed its hours and services in response to the Chancellor’s Dec. 21 announcement that instruction during the first two weeks of winter quarter will be remote and Jan. 8 update that instruction may continue remotely for an additional two weeks.
Building hours and service desk hours are reduced from Jan. 3-30. View the updated hours.
Only UCSB affiliates are allowed in the Main Library building, with the exception of those who have a Special Research Collections appointment.
At the Main Library, users must enter through the Mountain Side entrance (across from the Arbor) and exit the Paseo West. Upon entry, patrons will be asked to present a green clearance badge.
Food is not allowed in the Library. Drinks are permitted, but masks must be worn between sips.
Only one person is allowed to use a Group Study Room at a time.
Masks continue to be required in the building and must be worn over the nose and mouth. Library staff may ask users who do not comply to leave the building with no prior warning.
The Library has expanded its utilization of Kanopy streaming licenses for instructional purposes. We will purchase Kanopy streaming licenses even for films that we hold in our physical collection, in order to provide for the quickest and broadest accessibility of streaming media for teaching. Many Kanopy streaming licenses can be obtained and delivered on the same day as requested.
Instructors can request Kanopy streaming licenses through the Library’s Course Reserves system, and the Library will fill up to 9 requests per quarter as long as a Kanopy streaming license exists. This Films for Teaching guide provides instructions on placing Course Reserves requests for films.
