Many of our aerial photos have been scanned and are generally available free to UC users. MIL will provide scanning of up to 12 additional photos for UC users for free. For larger projects, there may be fees for scanning. Please contact MIL staff for information. Fees are implemented for users not affiliated with the University of California.
Scanning of aerial photography is performed by the Library's Digitization Center. Scanning of 1-9 frames will be completed within 5 business days; requests for more than 9 frames will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis. Imagery is scanned at 600 ppi and is usually delivered as tiff files, unless a higher resolution or different file format is requested. We can scan frames of 11”x17” or smaller at up to 2400 ppi. If scans of larger format imagery are needed, arrangements may be made with Pacific Western Aerial Surveys. View our resolution examples if you are unsure of the resolution needed.
To request aerial photograph reproductions:
> for UC users, please use a UC Imagery Request Form.
> for non-UC users, please request reproductions through AIRS.
Digital images are normally placed on the web for retrieval, or on a CD.
Photographic reproductions of images in our collection may be obtained from Pacific Western Aerial Surveys (PWAS). PWAS’ fees vary depending upon the desired end product. MIL charges a $30 per frame release fee for images sent to PWAS. Please contact PWAS at (805) 963-0382, and they will supply price information for their work.
