What is Responsible AI? A Talk by William Wang, Director of UC Santa Barbara's Center for Responsible Machine Learning

This talk is in conjunction with the UCSB Reads 2022 book Exhalation by Ted Chiang, a collection of short stories that addresses essential questions about human and computer interaction, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI). 
 
Artificial Intelligence is a top national priority of the United States, and it promises to drive the next economic growth of our world. As AI and Machine Learning technologies continue to shape our future, it is critical that we understand the opportunities ahead of us, and avoid the perils. 

William Wang will describe the key recent advances in artificial intelligence, and outline the new challenges for building human-centered AI technologies, focusing on issues of fairness, bias, transparency, and energy efficiency of AI algorithms.

This virtual event is free and open to the public. Event will be captioned.

A Pacific Views Series talk by William Wang, the Co-Director of UC Santa Barbara's Natural Language Processing group and Center for Responsible Machine Learning. He is the Duncan and Suzanne Mellichamp Chair in Artificial Intelligence and Designs, and an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at UCSB.
