Of Mice and Men poster Hillary Young, UCSB Department of Ecology, Evolution and Marine Biology
April 18, 4 pm

More than one-half of wild animal life on the planet has been lost in the last 40 years. These rates of decline are accelerating. Yet we still have very limited understanding of how these changes to Earth's animal life are likely to affect human health and well-being. In this presentation, Hillary Young will discuss recent research that suggests these losses are likely to have profound and often negative impacts on basic functions of ecosystems and the societies that depend on them.

Young is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Marine Biology at UCSB, where she focuses on community ecology and conservation applications. She has a B.A. from Princeton University in ecology and evolutionary biology, an M.A. from Yale University in environmental management, and a Ph.D. from Stanford University in biology. She did her postdoctoral research at Harvard University and Smithsonian Institution before coming to UCSB in 2013.
