DIY Zine Workshop: A UCSB Reads Event

Thu, 04/04/2019 - 6:00pm to 8:00pm
Event
Location:
Instruction & Training 1312
Join us at UCSB Library for a free zine workshop, no experience necessary! Zines (pronounced “zeens”) are self-published, DIY collections of photos and text that are printed by hand or photocopied, and independently distributed by the author or ‘zinester.’ You can learn more about zines and how they are made here.

Participants will learn how to make a zine and are welcome to contribute pages to a group zine or their own minizines exploring their families' migration histories and culture, similar to how UCSB Reads 2019 author Thi Bui uses the graphic novel format in The Best We Could Do. Completed group zines will be made available to each participant after the event.

Supplies are provided, but you may also want to bring photos or other original items to include in your zine pages. You'll have the opportunity to photocopy original items at no charge.
  • Snacks provided.
  • Questions?  Please contact Alex Regan at aregan@ucsb.edu
  • Event is in conjunction with UCSB Reads 2019.
  • Co-sponsored with the Southeast Asian Student Union and the Vietnamese Student Association.

A pop up display of zines created in the workshop will be on display in UCSB Library's Mountain Gallery through spring quarter.
