This two-meeting workshop will help faculty to design effective, innovative research based assignments that will engage students and showcase their learning.

Facilitators: Rebecca Greer, UCSB Library Instruction Program Coordinator; Linda Adler-Kassner, CITRAL Director and Professor of Writing Studies
2 meetings (90 minutes each)

In this highly interactive workshop, participants will identify characteristics of excellent (student) research writing, then work with facilitators to develop specific strategies for teaching research- and writing-related skills required to produce this writing. The workshop will also help faculty to identify and develop strategies to overcome troublesome components of teaching research in their disciplines.

Participants should bring to the workshop:

  • A research-based assignment they wish to improve or revise,
  • A piece of effective student (or published) research; and
  • Enthusiasm for thinking with others about research and learning
