The Jumpstart Program for Curricular Technology at the University of Southern California was initiated in fall 1995 to encourage and support improvement in instruction and research using computer and digital technology. Three projects were begun last fall with another three soon to be added. The Jumpstart Program takes the USC Library into new areas of direct involvement in curricular design and technology implementation. Each project features an interdisciplinary project team made up of librarians, computer specialists, graphic designers and teaching faculty. This team works for a one year term to create a working pilot project that both utilizes Web technology in a creative way and addresses a curricular need.
This presentation will have several sections: description of process of soliciting and selecting campus projects -- design of the program description and application form, the structure of review committee and notification procedures; description and demonstration of curricular projects (first three will be substantially complete by April); discussion of issues and policy questions that arose with inauguration of this kind of activity; plans for continuance and expansion of the program.
The audience for this session is those working with faculty on program design, Web designers, those offering instruction in Web design, and Web project managers.
