Critical Thinking in an Online World

Debra Jones
Internet Librarian
Cabrillo College, Aptos, CA

Debra Jones is an Internet Librarian at Cabrillo College. She finds herself one of the evolving librarians professionals of which she speaks to us in her presentation. Over the fifteen years since she has been a librarian, she has found herself swayed from a love of reference inquiries in the public library setting to a desires to teach the skills we practice. Designing self-paced instruction and teaching information on research and critical thinking skills to community college students has occupied her for the last four years. Most recently, her moniker "Internet Librarian" , comes from a Chancellor's Office grant that included developing online information resources and training for job placements professionals. This divergence from the trenches also led to her furthering her education by this last year acquiring another Masters degree, this time in Educational Technology. Her librarian skills will be used this year as an Instructional Designer for a second state grant to provide Internet resources and training for small business economic redevelopment.
