She started working at the University of Arizona Library in January 1993. Previous to this she was employed at the University of Nevada, Reno as the Physical Sciences Librarian. She has been using and teaching others how to use the Internet since 1991. She received her MLS from the University of Arizona in 1990.
Laura Bender provides reference service, selection services, and training as needed for customers in the Sciences Engineering Library. She develops and maintains in-depth subject knowledge of resources, new services and technologies in electrical and computing engineering, general technology and family and consumer resources (textiles).
She participates in the design and provision of educational classes and workshops for both primary customers--users of the Science-Engineering Library, and secondary customers--Main Library and general campus population and community users. She develops and provides appropriate educational aids.
She establishes and maintains connections with faculty, students, researchers and staff in the engineering sciences, and in other departments as needed. She helps develop programs and possibilities for further collaboration in curriculum and research development.
She has worked at the University of Arizona Library since December, 1994. Prior to this position, she served as the Business Reference Librarian at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She have been investigating and using the Internet since 1993. She received her MLS from the University of Arizona in 1983.
