During planning for CLUnet (California Lutheran University's Campus Wide Network), the Campus Computing Committee formed an Internet Task Force representing the University community: Faculty, Students, Technical Support, Library Services, University Relations, and Public Information. Duties included gopher and web design and computer use policies. This presentation will include information on who has been involved in our web development, our web audiences, organizing principles, publication policies and maintenance.

After deciding on the purposes for the Home Page (www.clunet.edu) and the basic organization, we created separate guidelines for departmental, faculty and staff, and student home pages. At the same time, we completed a comprehensive computer use policy that needed to be in place for accessing and publishing on our web site. The processes we used in formulating the policies and procedures as well as the policies and procedures will be described. We will also describe how we have gone about implementing the policies and how things have worked by citing examples of some of the standard issues: harassment; personal rights and responsibilities; and technical maintenance (use of resources and DNS-IP addressing).

This session will be useful for people who are looking for ways to improve the quality of the web site while supporting a broad-base of publishers and users. Web developers and maintainers will also find the session informative.
