This presentation will provide an overview of the Infocat Cataloging Project underway at UCSD. Discussion will focus on the genesis of the Infocat project and its efforts to represent and organize Internet resources in the library online catalog and to create hypertext links from the MARC record to the resource. Discussion will also address the the rationale of the MARC record structure devised by the Infocat team; issues pertaining to the character and extent of internet resources and to record maintenance; relationship to the OCLC Intercat Project; linking in both directions between MARC records and SGML coded finding aids for manuscript and archive materials; and the participation of subject bibliographers to select online sources for cataloging.
