Philip Kesten is an Associate Professor of Physics at
Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, California. He received his B.S.
degree in Physics from M.I.T. in 1978, and the Ph.D. in Physics from the
University of Michigan in 1985. At Santa Clara since 1990, Dr. Kesten
serves both as the Chair of the Department of Physics and the chairman of
the University's Technology Steering Committee. He is also a multimedia
consultant to book publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
Dr. Kesten's explorations into the academic use of technology date back
to 1975, when he developed a database system used at Syracuse University
to assist graduate students in writing their doctoral dissertations. He
has designed and authored several large database systems since then, and
is also active in a variety of projects in which current technologies are
applied to the academic endeavors of teaching and learning.
