Flora of North America (FNA) is a project undertaken by North American botanists to provide authoritative, up-to-date information on the names, relationships, characteristics, and distributions of the approximately 21,000 species of plants that grow outside of cultivation in North America north of Mexico. It is a work in progress, with new volumes published simultaneously on the Web and in print by Oxford University Press. The print version is available in the UCSB Library and includes some volumes not yet online..

Periodicals Archive Online (formerly known as  Periocials Contents Index Full Text) is an online archive of digitized, full-image journal articles published in the arts, humanities, social sciences, psychology and geography.

This database includes over one million articles and millions of pages of text. The scope is international, including journals in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and other Western languages.

The International Bibliography of the Social Sciences (IBSS) is an essential online resource for social science and interdisciplinary research. IBSS includes over two million bibliographic references to journal articles and to books, reviews and selected chapters dating back to 1951. It is unique in its broad coverage of international material and incorporates over 100 languages and countries. Over 2,800 journals are regularly indexed and some 7,000 books are included each year.

The Human Relations Area Files (HRAF) are a compilation, indexing, and distribution of a collection of ethnographic and other texts that are indexed by culture and subject, from 400 member institutions located in over 30 nations. HRAF indexes the information in its collection of ethnography by culture and subject. OWC is an acronym for the Outline of World Cultures, a systematic listing of the cultures of the world; an OWC code, or OWC number, is a culture identification code.

The eHRAF Collection of Archaeology is modeled after the eHRAF Collection of Ethnography. It provides researchers and students access to archaeological materials for comparative studies within and across regions. Annual installments cover eight or more major archaeological/cultural traditions from around the world with at least 10,000 pages indexed according to a modified Outline of Cultural Materials (OCM) for quick retrieval of information. Each major tradition typically contains an overview by an expert and descriptive materials on 5 to 7 sites.

The open access PASCAL and FRANCIS database is created by the Institut de l'Information Scientifique et Technique of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (INIST-CNRS).  It contains over 14 million articles, conference papers, and conference proceedings produced by the CNRS from 1984-2015 (PASCAL) and 1972-2015 (FRANCIS) and covers multilingual information in the humanities, social sciences, and economics.

Family & Society Studies Worldwide (FSSW) formerly produced by the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR), has been expanded by NISC. FSSW contains all the citations of the discontinued print version, Inventory of Marriage & Family Literature, plus abstracts which were never available in print. It also incorporates Australian Family & Society Abstracts, commonly known as FAMILY, produced by the Australian Institute of Family Studies.

The Ethnic NewsWatch database contains news, culture and history from 200 publications of the ethnic, minority and native press. Nearly 500,000 complete articles dating back to 1990 are available, along with archival material dating back to the mid 1980's. More than 7,500 new articles are added each month. Ethnic NewsWatch is searchable in both English and Spanish, with titles in both languages; more than 100,000 articles are in Spanish.
