Intended especially for inventors, prospective applicants for patents, and students. World Intellectual Property Organization
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is an intergovernmental organization with headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. It is one of the 16 "specialized agencies" of the United Nations system of organizations. WIPO is responsible for the promotion of the protection of intellectual property throughout the world through cooperation among States, and for the administration of dealing with the legal and administrative aspects of intellectual property.

Canadian Patents Database
Provided by the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, this database allows searching of Canadian patents from 1920 to the present, with displayable and downloadable page images.
Espa@cenet
Provided by the European Patent Office, esp@cenet allows searching of European, WIPO, Japanese, and worldwide patents in general. Fulltext of patents is available free online for the last ten years. Earlier years are stored offline and may be ordered.
US Patent and Trademark Office Web Patent Databases
The USPTO provides fulltext and bibliographic searching of US patents from Jan. 1976 to the present. Full text of patents, including images is available free of charge.
