MELVYL

To access Melvyl, the library catalog of the combined UC campuses, go to the home page of the UCSB Libraries. Melvyl has records for over 23 million items, which you can search by title, journal title, author (including composer or performer), subject, or general keywords. To combine search terms, select the Advanced option:

Advanced Search: Entire Collection

Author (last name first) hindemith
Title sonatas flute
Format: Scores (music)

In addition to limiting your search to books, scores, recordings, or other formats, you can limit to any one UC campus, by publication year(s), and by language. UCSB faculty, students, and staff may request from other UC campuses items not held at UCSB (or held at UCSB but checked out); to do so, use the Request button on your search result page. You generally receive a book or score requested in Melvyl in just 3-5 days.

PERIODICAL LITERATURE

Current and bound issues of Flute Talk are shelved under ML929 .F6; you can find the latest issue in the current periodicals display shelves, visible to your right as you enter the music library. UCSB students may check out periodicals for one day (except for the latest issue, which does not circulate). See also Traverso: Historical Flute Newsletter, ML935 .T7 1999.

To search for journal articles on the flute, use the three databases listed below. All three can be accessed via the library's home page; point to Research in the column on the left, then click on Article Indexes & Databases and scroll down the alphabetical list of databases in the lefthand frame. Because these databases are licensed for UCSB use only, you need to configure your browser for the library's proxy server in order to use them from off campus.
