    Americans for the Arts is a national support group for issues of public policy relating to arts and culture. This site features information and news on arts funding, education, advocacy, arts awareness resources, and links to other arts internet resources.
  • The Center for the Book in the Library of Congress
    The Center for the Book was established by law in 1977 to stimulate public interest in books, reading, libraries and literacy. The website contains information on its State Centers Affiliates; Community of the Book Organizations; Book History/Book Art Programs; Reading Promotions; Book Fairs, Literary Festivals, other Book Events; & Book Lists.

  • The Middle English Compendium
    The Middle English Compendium has been designed to offer easy access to and inerconnectivity between three major Middle English electronic resources: an electronic version of the Middle English Dictionary, a HyperBibliography of Middle English prose and verse, and related electronic resources.
  • The National Endowment for the Humanities
    The NEH is a federal agency that supports learning in history, literature, philosophy, and other areas of the humanities. We fund research, education, museum exhibitions, documentaries, preservation, and activities in the states.

    NHI promotes research, publishing, and teaching in the humanities. The NHI website includes an online journal, NHI publications & research listings, an electronic bulletin board, and links to other humanities research on the net.

    Art Access presents original art, poetry, reviews and literature, as well as monthly listings for the visual arts, dance, music and theater in Washington State.
  • ArtsWire
    Arts Wire contains a weekly digest of Arts news; a database of cultural resources on the Web; information on Arts events from several U.S. cities; periodically changing "tours" of Web sites curated by Arts Wire staff or guest curators; links to the Arts Wire Gopher and other arts resources in gopherspace; pages authored by individual artists as well as arts organizations.

  • ALEX
    Alex was originally conceived by Hunter Monroe in 1993-4 as a catalog and access point to electronic texts. The catalog contains roughly 2,000 texts mostly on gopher servers. Maintenance of the Alex Catalog has been suspended until adequate funding is found. The catalog is accessed by author, date, host, language, subject, or title. This site also contains a section with information about cataloging Internet resources.
  • Anthropoetics: The Electronic Journal of Generative Anthropology
    Generative anthropology (GA) is a new mode of critical thinking that applies the criterion of intellectual parsimony to the study of cultural phenomena. Anthropoetics is dedicated to rethinking both the impasse between the humanities, imprisoned in the "always already" of our cultural systems, and the empirical social sciences.

    Arts Wire CURRENT features news updates on social, economic, philosophical, and political issues affecting the arts and culture.

Humanities and the UCSB Library

UCSB humanities librarians and faculty are working together to develop long-term library needs for the humanities, including services, space, equipment, etc. This developing "vision statement" is currently in its beginning stages. The documents here give an overview of how the group began as well as some of the pressing needs expressed by faculty and librarians.
