 The decennial Census, known officially as the Census of Population and Housing is the main source for United States demographic data. The Census, as the name suggests, is conducted every ten years and is actually two separate censuses: population and housing. The decennial Census has been conducted since 1790 and is mandated by the constitution for the purpose of determining political representation in the House of Representatives. 

Use the following series of WWW pages to help guide you to the correct census report. 

There are three steps that will guide you to the correct Census report:

Step 1: Determine which Census report the subject or variable is contained in by determining whether the variable was asked on the 100% or sample Census Questionnaire.

Step 2:  Identify your geographic level.

Step 3: Use this information in referring to the publications chart to determine the appropriate CD-ROM, printed report or web site.
