BASIC SEARCHING
Select the type of search you want and type your search terms in the
box:
Notes:
-
Multiple words are searched as a phrase (or as adjacent words, so an author
search for jati sengupta will also find records under sengupta-jati).
-
A Words Anywhere search will look for your words anywhere in the
record, including author, title, abstract, and descriptors.
-
A Subject search will search subject descriptors and geographic
descriptors. Descriptors are from the Journal of Economic Literature,
and may be browsed at www.econlit.org/econlit/elhomsub.html.
-
Use * to search for variant word endings (i.e. financ* retrieves finance,
finances, financial, etc.)
LIMITS
Choose Set Other Limits to restrict your search by date or type,
such as article, dissertation, review, or working paper:
ADVANCED SEARCHING
-
Choose Search Builder, then limit your search to a particular field,
such as AU (author), TI (title), AB (abstract), DE (descriptors), SO (source),
and AF (author affiliation). For a full list, see the EconLit help.
Example:
-
To find articles about labor or unions, written by UCSB faculty:
DISPLAYING RECORDS
The default display includes the title, author, source, and abstract
(if available). To see a full record, including descriptors, choose Change
Display, then Complete Record, then Confirm Changes.
DOES UCSB OWN IT?
EconLit does not know whether or not UCSB owns a particular
item. Check PEGASUS:
-
Look up the title of the book: t [title of book]
-
Look up the title of the journal: t [title of journal]
ONLINE AVAILABILITY
IMPORTANT NOTE: EconLit uses TWO fields to indicate possible
electronic access: "Full-text" and "Availability." Change Display
to Complete Record to get displays of both fields! These links may
or may not work as formatted in EconLit, and we do not have access
to every web site included. For the correct links for UCSB access, see
the title at www.library.ucsb.edu/eresources/ejournals/econ.html
