Computer Science Reference Guide
These are starting points for Computer Science research at the Davidson
Library. If you need further assistance, ask a reference librarian at the 2nd
floor Sciences Engineering Library (SEL) Reference Desk or at the 1st Floor
Reference/Information Desk.
To Find BooksUse Pegasus
and MELVYLŪ, the library catalogs, to find books
at UCSB and at other UC campuses. The Pegasus System contains records of
books and journals in the UCSB Library. Pegasus includes circulation
information, journal holdings, and in-process books. MELVYL contains
cataloged resources from throughout the UC system.
To Find Journal ArticlesSome indexes, abstracts, and full-text
publications are accessible only from the ucsb.edu domain. Current UCSB students
faculty and staff may obtain access off campus by using the campus proxy server.
- Compendex Engineering Village
1970 to present. Comprehensive interdisciplinary engineering abstracts
database in the world. Covers over 2,600 international engineering journals,
technical reports and conference proceedings.
- INSPEC
1969 to present. Covers physics, electrical engineering and electronics,
computers and control, and information technology. Most citations include
abstracts.
- MATHSCINET 1940 to
present. Accessible only from the ucsb.edu domain. MathSciNet is a searchable
web database covering Mathematical Reviews and Current Mathematical
Publications. The database includes publications covering mathematics,
statistics, operations research, and econometrics. Reviews are online from
1980 to the present.
- NTIS
(Government Reports Announcements) -- CD-ROM: 1983 to 1997; Web: 1990 to
present. Unclassified research reports from agencies of the federal
government; some coverage of state and foreign technical reports. Has
citations to applied science, e.g., geographic information systems, energy,
environment, and remote sensing.
- Web of Science (Science
Citation Index) 1945 to present. The Sciences section of Web of Science
indexes 5,300 science journals, with searchable author abstracts. The database
adds about 17,000 new articles per week. 1973 to present.
