Materials Safety Data Sheets

Materials Safety Data Sheets contain basic safety information on the storage, handling and use of chemicals. Manufacturers are required to provide them on request for any chemical products they sell. There are a number of Internet sites which provide electronic collections of MSDS's for quick reference.

  • Hazardous Chemical Database from Univ. of Akron
A searchable collection of hazardous chemical information from the University of Akron.

  • MSDS related links from University of Georgia
This web site contains a list of MSDS web sites from a variety of sources.

  • MSDS from University of Utah
This site at the University of Utah contains a collection of materials safety data sheets from a variety of sources. Chemicals are listed alphabetically by common or product name. The database is not searchable.

  • MSDS from Vermont SIRI
This site from Vermont Safety Resources on the Internet contains a searchable collection of MSDS from a variety of chemical manufacturers. It also includes a large collection of links to other Web MSDS sites. Vermont SIRI also maintains a good collection of links to other health and safety sites on the Vermont SIRI Web Site.

  • MSDS from PTCL in Oxford, U.K.
This Web site contains an alphabetically grouped collection of MSDS from a variety of sources. The collection is maintained by the Physical and Theoretical Chemsitry Laboratory at the University of Oxford.

Professional Societies

These are the Web sites for the major chemical engineering societies. Most have information on their publications, conferences, services, membership and so on.

Conferences, Meetings and Symposia

If you know of Web listings for any meetings that you think should receive their own listings here, contact Chuck Huber (huber@library.ucsb.edu)

Indexes to Journal Articles on the Internet UCSB Users Only

Users accessing this page from a "ucsb.edu" server may access the following collections of searchable indexes to the journal and other literature:
  • Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management Database
This set of databases includes twelve environmental files from Cambridge Scientific Abstracts which may be searched individually or as a single database, plus TOXLINE from the National Library of Medicine. These files include Risk Abstracts and Health and Safety Science Abstracts. Most cover 1981 to the present, some more, some less. Also available are a set of aquatic science files (ASFA). For more detail, see the descriptions accessible from the IDS page.
  • Environmental RouteNet
This service from Cambridge Scientific Abstracts provides access to a host of files related to environmental issues, including article indexes, newsletters, patents, job listings and more. The files may be searched individually or in a combined global search.

Commercial Information Providers

  • Cambridge Scientific Abstracts
Cambridge Scientific Abstracts provides a number of subscriber-only databases and environmental references which can be reached through this site.
  • Chemical Abstracts Service
Chemical Abstracts Service, a division of the American Chemical Society, is the premier provider of current information from the literature of chemistry and chemical engineering. This site includes information on CAS's print andelectronic products and services, including documentation on STN International (the online service provided by CAS) and its commands and databases. If you have an STN account, you can access a number of STN databases via the STNEasy Web interface or use TELNET to search the full STN command line interface.
  • Chemical Information System
Chemical Information Service, a service of the Oxford Molecular Group, provides access to over thirry databases with chemical information, especially environmental data. This site gives a list of the databases available on CIS, and contact information.
  • The Dialog Corporation
The Dialog Corporation is the world's largest provider of information access, including both traditional online and Web access to the DIALOG and DataStar systems. The site above is the new home site for Dialog, and some of the information at the Web site is still in transition from the old web site, but there are links to the older site where necessary.
  • Engineering Information, Inc.
Engineering Information, Inc. (Ei) is the publisher of Engineering Index and the COMPENDEX database. They are developing Engineering Information Village, a large collection of engineering resources available by subscription over the Internet.
  • Fachinformationszentrum Karlsruhe
FIZ Karlsruhe produces several databases and is the German host of STN International).
  • Questel/Orbit
Questel/Orbit is an international online information company specializing in patent, trademark, scientific, chemical, business and news information. This web site contains numerous links to other Webinformation, especially on patents, trademarks and o ther intellectual property. If you have a current Questel or Orbit account, you can TELNET to search their databases from here.

Super Sites

These are major collections of World Wide Web information in chemical engineering. Some of the sources they link to may duplicate each other or the Infosurf Chemical Engineering Page, but you will also find unique resources. If you spot any resources that you think should receive their own listings here, contact Chuck Huber (huber@library.ucsb.edu)
