Research Strategies and Methods

  • Bibliographies, as well as "guides to the literature" or "guides to information sources," are useful as lists of key research resources for the visual arts, especially when annotated with critical descriptions. Bibliographies are not as current as online catalogs and indexes for finding books and articles, and some of the cited resources may be superseded. Conversely, bibliographies may have deeper retrospective coverage than online databases, and therefore may lead to additional sources on a topic. Some bibliographies also double as research guides, with explanations of research strategies and methodologies. A *selected* list of bibliographies appears below.
