- Britannica Online
- The web version of the Encyclopaedia Britannica is an excellent
source for general articles on scientific topics, and for
biographical articles on noted scientists. Articles contain the
full text of the print encyclopedia, as well as links to some
relevant web sites outside Britannica.

Catalog of the Scientific Community: 16th and 17th Centuries
- This catalog is a collection of 631 detailed biographies on
members of the scientific community during the 16th and 17th
centuries. The vital facts about these individuals and their
contributions to science can be found here.
- A Dictionary of
Scientific Quotations
- This site, provided by natualSCIENCE.com, gives a selection of
scientific quotations, but only one per notable person, and often
far from the most famous quotes attributed to the speaker in
question. Still, it can be interesting.
- Federal Research and
Development Project Summaries
- The U.S. Government is accountable to the public for its
annual multi-billion dollar R&D investment. This system is a
consortium of federal agencies providing R&D summaries: Department
of Energy; National Institutes of Health; National Science Foundation.
- GrayLit Network
- The GrayLIT Network makes the gray literature of U.S. Federal
Agencies easily accessible over the Internet. It taps into the
search engines of distributed gray literature collections, enabling
the user to find information without first having to know the
sponsoring agency.

- An annotated directory of science and technology resources on
U.S. government sites. Browsable by agency and searchable by

- Science Daily: Your Link to
the Latest Research News
- This online magazine brings you breaking news about the latest
discoveries and hottest research projects in everything from
astrophysics to zoology.
- What's Hot in
Research
- The Institute of Science Information offers this What's Hot in
Research Page which keeps abreast of current trends in scientific
research. The weekly feature contains rankings of journals based on
their impact within a field, listings of the most prolific
universities in different fields, and an abstract of a hot paper in
a subject area.

- Science's Next Wave
- A weekly online publication that covers scientific training,
career development, and the science job market. The Next Wave is
published by Science magazine and the American
Association for the Advancement of Science.

Armchair Scientist
- Hot AIR
This is the electronic version of the often hilarious Annals of Improbable
Research, the bestowers of the annual Ig Nobel Prizes.
- ION Science
- Nonlinear Science Today
This is an adjunct to the print Journal of Nonlinear Science, which covers
subjects like chaos and turbulence over the whole range of science.
- The Scientist
The Scientist is a newspaper primarily aimed at life scientists, but with much
material of general interest, especially about the interactions between science,
academia, industry and government. Includes job listings. Also includes a link to
the gopher version of the Scientist, which contains older archived material.
- The Skeptical Inquirer
Published by CSICOP, the Committee for the
Scientific Investigation of the Paranormal, Skeptical Inquirer is
the most renowned magazine devoted to the debunking and discrediting of "fringe
science" and the paranormal. The web site provides tables of contents from 1995
to the present, and full text of selected articles. Complete electronic issues
are available by subscription.
