Arabic Wax Cylinders

Twenty-one commercial brown wax cylinder recordings, probably made in Damascus, Syria as early as 1899 or 1900. Recordings are solo and groups of male vocalists accompanied by stringed instruments such as oud.

The collection is available online as part of the Cylinder Preservation and Digitzation Project.
