Cylinder Project

The Cylinder Preservation and Digitization Project provides free access to a digital collection of nearly 8,000 cylinder recordings held by the Department of Special Collections. You can find out more about the cylinder format, listen to thousands of musical and spoken selections from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and discover a little-known era of recorded sound.

Encyclopedic Discography
of Victor Recordings

The Encyclopedic Discography of Victor Recordings (EDVR) is an index to master recordings (matrixes) and published discs made by the Victor Talking Machine Company beginning in 1900 to 1950.

The database is edited by a team of researchers based at the University of California, Santa Barbara Libraries and includes master recordings, trial recordings of new artists and sessions from which no discs were issued.

Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions Audio Archive

The Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions (CSDI) brought together many of the most capable and distinguished minds of the times to discuss vital issues facing American society of the day. Political and academic leaders, scientists, social scientists, legal scholars, journalists, theologians, labor and community leaders focused on topics such as peace and war, democracy, dissent, community action, ecology and the environment, elections and the electoral process, immigration, international relations, law and order, the media, race and ethnicity, and religion. Many of these significant recordings have been digitized and made accessible for free on the web.

John S. Kiewit Photography Collection

The John S. Kiewit Collection contains more than 10,000 color and black/white prints, color slides, and black/white negatives, taken from about 1968 to 2000, reflecting what Kiewit saw on his travels throughout California and the West.
