UCSB Libraries Policy on Use of Electronic ResourcesAllowed use includes the printing/downloading of citations, articles, or other documents that would ordinarily result from searching research topics, authors, publications from a particular institution, or references found in bibliographies or chapters of books. Articles, search results and other information from licensed resources may not be systematically downloaded or re-published in print or electronic form. Articles may not be downloaded in aggregate quantities or centrally stored for later retrieval. “Systematic downloading” refers to a user or users who are systematically, and/or automatically and very intentionally downloading numerous entire years worth of major journals, thousands of records from bibliographic databases, or entire electronic books. Such downloading can result in the temporary and partial, or, in extreme cases, complete and permanent loss of access to abused resources for University of California users. Therefore, the UCSB Libraries reserve the right to examine usage reports to identify users who are abusing electronic resources so that measures can be taken to stop the abuse and restore service.
