This collection development policy is a guide to Davidson
Library acquisition of library materials to support the instructional
and research needs for the Division of Humanities and Fine Arts at the
University of California, Santa Barbara. The library recognizes and supports
the growing interdisciplinary nature of research, scholarship, and teaching.
Scope
The Humanities Collection is a supplemental fund for interdisciplinary
titles that cannot be categorized into any one discipline. This collection
emphasizes subjects related to popular culture and cultural studies.
The collection includes both scholarly and popular treatment of subjects
across the disciplines. The Humanities collection includes Art History,
Classics, Dance, Drama, English, Film Studies, History, Linguistics, Music,
Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Studio Art.
Language
The collection is primarily in the English language with
some resources in the Western European languages.
Formats
Materials are collected in a variety of formats including
but not limited to the following: digital, monographs, serials, microform,
and video.
Collection Levels
The Humanities Collection supports the teaching, research,
and study activities of the UCSB campus community.
Geographical Scope
Geographical coverage is worldwide.
Exclusions
Unpublished theses and dissertations are acquired on a
highly selective basis. Textbooks and minor revisions are excluded.
