Introduction
Any cartobibliography that is not limited by time
frame is never truly completed, and this one is no exception.
I began work on in it in 1984 or thereabouts, when I was the Map
Librarian at the Arthur Lakes Library, Colorado School of Mines,
Golden, and where about 90 percent of the reference questions
I answered were on geologic maps. I have been working on it off
and on ever since - most recently with the assistance of two research
grants from the Librarians Association of the University of California
- and have finally reached the point where I realize I've done
what I can, given the time I have available, and the fact that
the collection with which I work now has relatively few geologic
maps. Even with all that time and effort, there are still many
question marks throughout the index.
I am therefore issuing this on the Web, for scholarly
and research purposes. I would be most happy to receive any additions
and corrections; I would especially be interested in receiving
Web-site addresses of specific maps that are listed in the cartobibliography.
