Comision Feminil Mexicana Nacional

September 1 - November 17, 2003

The Comisión Femenil Mexicana Nacional archives were established in CEMA in January 2000. Consisting of 28 linear feet, these archives are the official records of the national organization. The Comisión Femenil Mexicana Nacional, founded in 1980, was an organization of women who enhance and promote the image of Chicana/Latina women in all levels of society. This exhibit highlighted holdings from the CEMA collection (CEMA 30).

Goldshlak (Leon A.) Gilbert & Sullivan Collection

July 1 - August 15, 2003

This exhibit highlighted the collection of books, sound recordings, videotapes, scores and graphic materials related to the careers and operas of William S. Gilbert & Arthur Sullivan. Goldshlak was a Santa Barbara collector who amassed a significant collection of published and unpublished materials. The collection was donated by Goldshlak’s cousin, Barry Kasdan.

Die-Cut Advertising Literature, ca. 1880-1960

Exhibit posterThe vast majority of items in this exhibit come from a recently acquired collection (Mss 202) of 101 pamphlets, booklets, cards, and flyers cut in shapes such as animals, books, bottles, boxes, cans, fruit and vegetables, hats, oysters, and shoes. Many of the items are highly illustrated and printed in vivid colors. Most are early- mid 20th century, some from California.

The Future in the Past: Works of Science Fiction and Fantasy From the 19th and Early 20th Centuries

Willem Blaeu (1571-1638)The portrait of Willem Janszoon Blaeu bears the Latin motto, Indefessus Agendo, Guilielmus Blaeu. An English equivalent of this phrase would be "Indefatigable Agenda, William Blue," and it refers to this Dutch mapmaker’s ambition to become Europe’s premiere publisher of cartographic materials.
