2-Story Building Closed for Renovation

The UCSB Library's 2-story historic building has been officially closed to the public. That part of the Library will undergo renovations and will not re-open until the Library Addition & Renovation Project is completed, 2 1/2 years from now. The 2-story building housed the Sciences-Engineering Library, Map and Imagery Laboratory, the Government Information Center, the Curriculum Lab, the Interlibrary Loan office, and the Group Commons.

Library Building Project Featured in Museum Exhibition

Currently on view at UCSB's Art, Design & Architecture Museum is "Unbuilt UCSB," an exhibition that displays building projects and designs that were intended for the UC Santa Barbara campus but never constructed or have yet to be completed. Included in the exhibition are several pieces about the UCSB Library Addition and Renovation Project, such as this print of a rejected plan for the Library Plaza that includes pools of water and a mist fountain.

Microform Readers are Moving to 2nd Floor

The microform readers are moving to the second floor.  Their new location will be above the main entrance, in the same area where the 2nd floor Help Desk is located.  There is a copy card dispenser and a bill breaker machine located in this same area.

Countdown to the Closing of the Two-Story Building

Partition walls are in the process of being constructed that will fully close off the two-story building to the public for the renovation of that part of the Library. The two-story building housed the Sciences-Engineering Library, Map and Imagery Laboratory, the Government Information Center, the Curriculum Lab, and the Interlibrary Loan office. All of these collections, services, and offices have now been relocated. This building is also home to the Group Commons. Once closed, we will be redistributing furniture from the Group Commons in other parts of the Library, for use by students.

Curriculum Lab Open in New Location

The Curriculum Lab has completed its move.  It is now open in its new permanent location, in the southeast portion of the second floor.  To find the new loaction, face the entrance to the Ethnic and Gender Studies Library at the top of the main stairs, and go to your left.  From there you will see the Curriculum Lab desk down the aisle.

Curriculum Lab Move is in Progress (July 3-5)

The Curriculum Lab is currently moving to a new location.  Materials in the collection may be unavailable during the transition.

EGSL Display Honors Gerda Lerner

Gerda LernerA new display in the Ethnic & Gender Studies Library honors Gerda Lerner.  Lerner (1920-2013), is widely considered to be responsible for establishing women’s history as a legitimate field of study.
